The campus is cancelling events left and right. The students are stocking up on essentials--beer, hard liquor, mixers--and everyone is sure this hurricane will be the big one.

Mom has been emailing me with preparation tips. She wants to know that I've stocked up on batteries and water and masking tape for the windows, that my computers are off and my car is parked as far away from the trees as I can get it.

All of my work meetings need rescheduling, a tall order this early in the semester.

If the power goes out I'll be living on bagels all weekend.

Isabel better be worth it.
