Some things aren't true until you say them...

The sky has been the same for two days: low, heavy, and grey, punctuated by the sorts of holes in cloud cover that only make you realize just how far up the clouds go. Where the piled darkness just expands upwards, as if you were looking at some overly-dramatic painting.

The water, though, has been different. Yesterday it was an expanse of molten silver, mercury-bright all the way across the river. Today it is darker, deeper, reflecting the trees in long, blended lines of brown and dark green.

As a kid, I would have made my father explain this. Today, if you know, don't tell me. I understand it enough.
